For National Adoption Awareness month, I was inspired by the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption to combat some common myths about the US foster system. I decided to start a social media campaign featuring infographics that both dispel common myths and bring awareness to the trauma that foster children are put through. The goal of the campaign was to convince people that adoption could be their plan A for starting a family; adoption shouldn’t be viewed as a backup to the traditional family plan.
The project featured 10 infographic style “cards” that each focused on a particular fact about adoption. Although the subject matter was serious in nature, I wanted to integrate the energy, positivity, and innocence of the children I was representing. This was achieved mainly through the design choices such as palette and fonts. I also conducted user testing to determine if the designs could significanlty change my audiences views about adoption. Overall, the results were promising and illuminated some key areas where the designs could be improved. After the testing, I created 2 additional cards to combat some of those myths that still persisted in the first round of testing.
